1348年（貞和４）に楠木正行（まさつら・正成の長男）は四條畷（なわて）の戦いへの途上、如意輪寺の後醍醐天皇廟に詣り、扉に矢尻で辞世の句を刻む。父正成の遺志をついで、亡き後醍醐天皇に殉する覚悟の正行と主要な家臣は元より、遠景に小さく描かれた雑兵たちの表情もまたいいのです。

In 1346 on the eve of the battle, Masatsura, son of Kusunoki Masashige (22 years old), went to Mt.Yoshino to visit Nyoirin-ji Temple in Yoshino, where Emperor Godaigo had transferred the capital. He had a premonition of his death. Then, he inscribed a tanka poem with an arrowhead on the wooden door. The door still exists.
